Climate change and food products: the study by the Bank of Slovenia

The countless consequences of extreme meteorological events on people’s lives also include increases in food prices, this is the conclusion reached in the report on macroeconomic dynamics conducted by the Bank of Slovenian using the European Extreme Events Climate Index.

More specifically, the use of the Index revealed a correlation between the prices of unprocessed food products (primarily fruit and vegetables) and the occurrence of extreme meteorological events, not only in terms of price fluctuations, but also with regard to the implications on the Slovenian market forthe import and export of food products.
