Banka Slovenije study on correlation between climate change and food inflation updated

The Banka Slovenije updated the study previously published in June 2023, made possible thanks to the of the European Extreme Events Climate Index. The study investigates the correlation between extreme weather events on people’s lives and rising food prices.

The use of the Index highlighted the correlation between the prices of unprocessed food items (mainly fruits and vegetables) and the occurrence of extreme weather events: not only with regard to the price fluctuations, But also about the resulting impact on the Slovenian market for import and export of food products. Thus, the research demonstrates the concrete effects of climate change on the market over a period from January 2000 to December 2023.
