This publication analyses, quantifies and monitors extreme meteorological events in Italy using the European Extreme Events Climate Index (E3CI). Based on the data collected over the last hydrological year, the report emphasises the importance of the Index in detecting trends and analysing the impact of extreme events in Italy.
The report was drawn up by the IFAB with the support of the CMCC Foundation and the Unipol Group’s Leithà. The data, research, statistics and trends presented in the paper show an increasingly important increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme atmospheric phenomena, with detrimental effects on geographical areas, productive sectors and communities.
In addition to providing a detailed review of the historical data and identifying medium- and long-term scenarios, “How is Italy faring?” discusses the application opportunities offered by the European Extreme Events Climate index.
