Webinar | Extreme Weather Events and Flood Risk: Data and Tools to Predict and Reduce Impacts

Extreme weather events, particularly heavy rainfall, are now among the leading risk factors for urban areas, infrastructure, and industrial systems. In the context of climate change, the ability to forecast, quantify, and translate meteorological data into real-world ground impacts is crucial for civil protection agencies, local authorities, and risk operators.

To address this challenge, on March 18 we will take part in a webinar hosted by Hypermeteo, in collaboration with SaferPlaces and E3CI (European Extreme Events Climate Index). The session will present an integrated approach that starts with high-resolution meteorological data — a key element in identifying intense precipitation — and progresses to flood risk assessment and impact mapping.

Extreme Weather Events and Flood Risk: Data and Tools to Predict and Reduce Impacts

Wednesday, March 18
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Online – Microsoft Teams

The webinar will demonstrate how meteorological data can be transformed into operational decisions and tangible flood risk reduction. Industry experts will illustrate how advanced datasets and analytical tools can be strategically leveraged to develop effective climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.

In detail:

  • Hypermeteo will highlight the strategic role of high-granularity weather and climate datasets as enabling infrastructure for reliable forecasting models.
  • SaferPlaces will present its Flood Risk Intelligence system, which integrates meteorological data, hydrological modeling, and AI to generate risk indicators, flood maps, and urban- and building-scale impact scenarios.
  • Index E3CI will explore the definition and monitoring of extreme events, placing individual events within a broader climate context and underscoring the importance of tools capable of tracking, analyzing, and quantifying extremes over time. Assessing trends and significant changes across Italy is essential for designing truly effective and informed climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
